The keyboard that appears at the bottom of the screen and that you type with. Not a physical keyboard attached to the device.
A complete keyboard the user has built: which keys exist, where they sit, how large they are, which colours they have. Several designs can exist side by side and be switched between.
A single key on the keyboard that you tap with your finger.
Belongs together with "button": the key is part of the keyboard, the button is part of the app interface. Please keep the two distinguishable.
A horizontal row of keys in a design. A design is made up of several rows; with the Extended Design Package there can be any number of them.
CAREFUL, risk of collision: in some languages the obvious word for "bar" is a word that actually means "row". The word bar and the key row would then share one word. Please make sure the two stay distinguishable.
A control in the app itself, for example in the info area or in a dialog. Not the same as a key: a key belongs to the keyboard, a button to the app user interface. If your language has only one word for both, please tell us how to express the difference.
Belongs together with "key": the two must stay distinguishable.
What happens when a key is used: write a character, delete something, switch the mode, start an app and much more. One key can have a different function for pressing, holding and swiping.
A layer of a design, for example lowercase letters, uppercase letters or special characters. Switching the mode changes the label and the function of all keys at once.
The narrow bar directly above the keyboard that shows word suggestions while you type. Tapping a suggestion inserts it.
This one decides several terms at once: the word for "word" appears in four of them (word bar, word list, word lamp, word suggestion), the word for "bar" in three (word bar, edit bar, Swuping bar). Please use the same word throughout.
edit bar
Bearbeitungsleiste
A bar with tools for editing the text you have written: move the cursor, select, copy, paste, undo.
Use the same word for "bar" as in word bar and Swuping bar.
Swuping bar
Swuping-Leiste
The bar at the top of the keyboard that appears while Swuping. It shows the word parts the word is assembled from and lets you exchange individual ones. Keep Swuping unchanged, translate only bar.
Use the same word for "bar" as in word bar and edit bar.
The small lamp at the left end of the word bar. Its colour shows the state of the word suggestions. Holding it opens the word management. This name was invented in German - a literal translation is not necessarily the best answer.
Use the same word for "word" as in word bar, word list and word suggestion.
The collection of words that feeds the suggestions and the autocorrect. There is one word list per language; it also records how often a word is used.
Use the same word for "word" as in word bar, word lamp and word suggestion.
The sections of the app you switch between at the bottom: Info, Designs, Keys, Tests, Words, Stickure, General. This does not mean the tabulator key.
The small window that opens above a key when you hold it, offering further characters to choose from.
character selector
Zeichenauswahl
The window in which you pick a character or symbol that a key should write.
A short tap on a key.
Please give all four actions in the same grammatical form. Tell us which form is usual in a user interface in your language.
Tapping a key and keeping the finger down.
Please use the same grammatical form as for the other three actions.
Dragging the finger away from a key in one direction. Each direction can carry a different function.
Please use the same grammatical form as for the other three actions.
Selecting text in order to copy, delete or replace it afterwards.
Please use the same grammatical form as for the other three actions.
A small mark in the corner of the word lamp giving extra information, for example where a word suggestion comes from. German uses the English word; your language may have a better own word.
